Join us as we delve into an urgent and essential conversation about the imperative need to create safe spaces within our churches for men and women of all ages with special guest, Mary DeMuth.

Mary shares her deeply personal journey as an abuse survivor, shedding light on the challenges that many face when dealing with the aftermath of abuse. She brings her wealth of experience and expertise to our discussion as we confront the stark reality of how churches often fall short in responding to the needs of abuse victims.

We tackle the tough issues head-on, examining the reasons why churches sometimes respond poorly to those who have experienced abuse and exploring the profound impact this has on victims and the broader faith community. We also discuss the critical elements that must be in place for a church to truly be a sanctuary for its members, fostering trust and healing in the wake of major denominations being exposed to the sin of sexual abuse.

This episode is a heartfelt exploration of a topic that has shaken the foundations of many religious organizations and raised critical questions about accountability, transparency, and the well-being of all members.

Mary DeMuth is literary agent, international speaker, and podcaster. She’s the novelist and nonfiction author of nearly 50 books, including “90-Day Bible Reading Challenge: Read the Whole Bible, Change Your Whole Life.” She loves to help people re-story their lives. Ruth and her husband, Nik, along with their three sons served 36 years overseas. After seven years of working in Somalia (where anyone who chose to follow Jesus faced persecution), the Ripkens went to believers who live in places where that was the norm. They traveled to over 70 countries to learn from followers who live for Jesus under difficult circumstances and who want to help us partner wisely with them.

What does it mean to be human and embodied as a female? Identity, purpose, and belief all flow out of our understanding of the creation story. Old Testament scholar and professor, Dr. Carmen Joy Imes joins us on our episode today to dig into the doctrine of the Imago Dei. Carmen emphasizes that every human being is bestowed with dignity and worth because we bear God’s image. As our Creator, we have a natural longing for Him, but we also have a desire to make an impact through our lives.

To truly understand ourselves as women and thrive, it’s important to understand our origins. By exploring themes from Genesis to the teachings of Jesus and how they impact our mission today, we can gain encouragement and insight.

Carmen (PhD, Wheaton College) is associate professor of Old Testament at Biola University. She is the author of “Being God’s Image: Why Creation Still Matters”, “Bearing God’s Name: Why Sinai Still Matters”, and “Praying the Psalms with Augustine and Friends.” Carmen loves helping Christians discover God’s grace in the Old Testament by writing, speaking, and creating videos.

They give a brief overview of how women have been a part of God’s work and mission from the beginning pages of Genesis to today, and how women are able to bring different viewpoints, strengths, and wisdom to the table. They encourage us in the truth that in our differences we are able to bring strength to our ministries, workplaces, and communities.
